60 Seconds Magazine

60 Seconds is a new type of magazine — a term we use loosely, mostly because we don’t know what else to call it. It’s not really a magazine though — it’s more a multi-media collection. It’s bite-sized narratives made specifically for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Our goal is to break as much ground in 60 seconds as possible using any narrative convention we can find, whether that means video, audio, text, game, art — whatever our contributors see fit is what we aim to showcase.

Why is it called 60 Seconds? Well, because we don’t want to force people into taking longer than 60 seconds to digest information — this is the Internet age after all right? Do we hate long-form media? Of course not, that’s ridiculous — but we are aware that when people are looking to waste a few moments while waiting for the bus or while sitting on the toilet they pull out their iPhones. We want to utilize this downtime to showcase cool ideas and different kinds of art. We want to give experimentalism a place to shine right next to traditional forms. The only definition of art we’re subscribing to to is: if you call it art — it’s art. That said, we’re not going to take just anything, we do have standards of some kind. Of course, those won’t really be revealed until the first issue actually launches, so until then we’ll be taking a look at all types of neat and crazy things.

At this point you’re probably wondering who the heck we are, and we don’t blame you for that. We’re a few different people, all with varying degrees of talent and intelligence. We’ve also got a review board lined up to take a look at all these submissions, also made up of a variety of people. But that’s still not really answering your question is it? Fine, the two people you really need to know are Thorin (editor), Bryan (designer) and Joe (programmer). We are “in charge” in the loosest reading of the term. We like to think of ourselves as collaborators with you, the submitters.

Our launch issue, termed ISSUE (0), is set to release in Spring 2011 with contributions being accepted up untilĀ JANUARY 1, 2011 Submissions are closed — we’ll keep you updated on the launch of the first issue! If you have any questions about the format, style or objective, please read our submission guidelines.
